KidsMatter Early Childhood in SA

South Australian KMEC pilot sites are now focusing their KidsMatter lens upon Component 4 – Helping children who are experiencing mental health difficulties. The professional learning sessions are proving thought provoking and motivating. Staff members are actively engaged in developing strategies to promote increased awareness and shared understanding in their teams and the wider community about mental health and mental health difficulties in early childhood.
Services and staff members are also reflecting upon ways to reduce stigma surrounding mental health, through conversation and education at personal, service and community levels.
Discussions are also occurring about how policy and practice can promote transparency and encourage collaboration and communication between services, families and external service providers, with the aim of supporting families.
Finally, services are exploring how different KMEC components are connected and reflecting upon how the KMEC target areas can assist in developing specific strategies to support children and their families.
