PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Aim(s):

The BodyThink program aims to help children and young people build positive self-esteem and body confidence and improve their media literacy skills.

Target group:

The BodyThink program is designed for children and young people aged 10-15 years.

The BodyThink program is comprised of two central topics:
• Understanding the influences that affect our body image and self esteem
• Building self esteem and positive body image

No evaluations were submitted that met the inclusion criteria.

BodyThink is currently being formally evaluated by the School of Psychological Science at La Trobe University.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

Program structure:

The program can be used in both a classroom format and in smaller groups. It may be run as a one-off double lesson (two hours), or over two or more lessons. The BodyThink manual includes activity worksheets and prompts for teacher-lead discussion, a stimulus DVD and parent information leaflet. Further games and exercises are outlined for those teachers wishing to extend the lessons.

Staff professional learning (PL):

Teachers and other professionals must be trained in the use of BodyThink before implementation by The Butterfly Foundation. There are no pre-requisites for training. Training sessions run for 3½ hours at a cost of $50, which includes the provision of the program manual and DVD.
