No. KidsMatter does not screen individual children for mental health difficulties, nor does it diagnose or label children as having mental disorders or illnesses.
KidsMatter does seek to support the mental health and wellbeing needs of children by strengthening:
- knowledge of child development among parent, carers, and school and early childhood education and care staff
- communication between staff and parents
- staff and parent knowledge of common emotional and behavioural difficulties children experience and where to access help if they are worried.
KidsMatter is an initiative for all children and families – not just those experiencing difficulties.
