KidsMatter Early Childhood is a mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative that was trialled in over 100 Australian preschools, kindergartens and long day care services during 2010 and 2011. The Australian Government has funded the initiative to be rolled out to a total of 235 ECEC services by June 2014.
KidsMatter Early Childhood acknowledges the critical role that ECEC services have in enhancing factors that promote children’s mental health and wellbeing. It seeks to further develop ECEC services’ capacity to foster children’s mental health and wellbeing and recognise and respond effectively to early signs of children’s mental health difficulties.
It is underpinned by positive psychology philosophy focusing on strengthening protective factors where ECEC services can make a difference.
