Elanora State Primary School: Making learning and wellbeing top priorities

Elanora State Primary School has fully embedded KidsMatter in its strategic direction and was given recognition for its achievements in improving the social and emotional wellbeing in its whole-school community.  

Brisbane Boys' College: It's all about the boy

Brisbane Boys College is located in Toowong about 6 km from Brisbane’s CBD. There are 391 boys enrolled in the Junior School. The KidsMatter Primary school story describes the initiatives the College has taken to implement KidsMatter Primary since 2013. The Junior School was first involved in the national pilot of the KidsMatter online portal, and the focus in the last two years has been on social and emotional learning and making creative links with the parent community.

Holy Spirit School, Cranbrook, Townsville: Early days and Captain Kid

The story highlights the decision of the Action Team to use student surveys for students from the first year of school to Year 7. Older students used the online SurveyMonkey tool to respond to questions about how the school supports students, and how it demonstrates a sense of community connection. The survey also asked students about personal feelings. The story also features the importance of student leadership at Holy Spirit. 

Nambour Special School: Building on what we are doing

The school is located on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane. There are 120 students from Prep to Year 12. The story describes the steps that the school has taken to implement KidsMatter Primary since 2013. It has used the resources effectively as it is possible to differentiate them for the needs of students who have cognitive impairment as well as other disabilities. Staff have appreciated the Portal especially the range of videos.
The story describes reasons for getting involved with KidsMatter Primary at the school: to add to the initiatives that support students and parents.
Pomona State School began its journey with KidsMatter Primary in 2007 when it participated in the pilot phase in 2007. Since that time the focus on social and emotional learning has grown through the curriculum and other initiatives in the school community.

Trinity Anglican School - Cairns: it's ok to be caring
With two primary school campuses, it has been an interesting challenge to introduce KidsMatter Primary.  In 2010 the campus at White Rock began implementing the framework as a way of managing the diverse needs of students. At Kewarra Beach campus, staff introduced KidsMatter Primary in 2012. The two campuses share information particularly about social and emotional learning and reinforce the concept of wellbeing. 

Woodridge State School: it’s about mental health
Woodridge began implementing KidsMatter in Term 2 2011. The school was interested in the idea of the framework to build on wellbeing work developed over time. 

Woongoolba State School & ‘Fence Friends’

KidsMatter Primary fits well with other leadership initiatives at Woongoolba State School. A whole-school project  that  the school worked on in 2011 was ‘ Fence Friends’. The school created images to represent all students in the school community. The images were decorated by every student and were fixed along the front fence of the school to create a permanent exhibition.
St Anthony's Catholic College in Townsville, QLD has been implementing KidsMatter Primary since 2010. From being the first KidsMatter Primary school in the state, it is now a model for inclusiveness and social and emotional learning (SEL).
