Dawul is a small, remote community school. It is situated in Doon Doon Station in the East Kimberly, in a community of about 70 people. The school is a central, valued meeting point for the community. However, there are challenges every day including harsh weather conditions and deaths in the community. The children are regularly faced with significant trauma and grief. This trauma and grief also affects staff at the school.
To counter this, the school has an explicit focus on teaching the kids to be resilient and be able to bounce back if something bad happens in their lives. The school motto is ‘Strong and deadly, we can do it’. Find out more in this school story.
